Thanksgiving is this week, Hanukkah is coming, Christmas is looming on horizon, and New Year’s is after that. What’s a book nerd to do? People will be everywhere. Children looking over your shoulder. Aunts and Uncles asking “What’s the book about?” Mothers demanding that you “come join your family.” Fathers reminding you it’s “just for a few hours, you’ll survive.”
BUT YOU WON’T! YOU WON’T SURVIVE! Who can go a few hours without reading!? No one. So here’s how we’d hide it.
Get your wireless earbuds out and hook up that Audible. Wear your hair down or sit with that ear to the wall, then crank that volume up and never let the story stop.
“I’m just texting my friends for the Holiday.” No one seems to care if you’re on your phone until it’s dinner time, so take advantage of that and get your e-library all set.
The Small Group
Literally. The small people. Take the kids, gather the cousins, and go to the basement. Or your bedroom. Let the youngin’ do their thang and lean back with your hardback. No one’s coming until it’s dinner time and they’ll probably thank you for “watching the kids.”
Oh, my stomach!
Oh, it hurts. Ouch. Oof. Be sure to sound convincingly ill as you hog the best seat in the house and binge through a few chapters.
Gotta Take The Dogs Out
They need a walk. They need to potty. I… They need to not be in the house. Leash up your furbabies and head to the park. Fido won’t mind if he gets to run around for a bit.
